Excerpt from Recollections of Baron Gros's Embassy to China and Japan in 1857-58 A few days afterwards the names of the Marquis de Trevise and the Vicomte de Flavigny were added to the list of the members of the embassy and com pleted it. Lastly, M. De Besplas, a lieutenant in the navy, who had served in the Crimean campaign, and had been with Prince Napoleon in his, expedition to the polar seas, was, at the special request of Baron Gros, added as a supernumerary to the naval Officers of the frigate.
