Power to the People: Exploring Music of Social Justice is an introduction to the music that tells the story of our nation. Every major social and political movement since (and including) the Revolutionary War has been accompanied by music. Over the course of nine detailed lessons, students will draw upon their own musical and social identity to uncover the meaning behind over 200 years of protest songs. Popular among teens, the Power to the People unit of study helps students to become critical listeners and informed consumers of music; to think deeply about the role of music in American history; and to more fully appreciate the rights they enjoy today thanks to the people who fought for them.
