My parents, Vernie and Virginia White, have spent the best part of their lives trying to scratch out a living on a farm in south central Kansas. Dad is no longer living in this world but my dear mother is ninety three years old at the time of this writing and still going strong. My two sisters and I could not have asked for better parents. Dad has been referred to by others as the last of the real cowboys and he was a conscientious man who had more raw determination-and bad luck-than anyone I've ever known. Our mother has been a dedicated farmer's wife and homemaker. "Life Ain't Easy on the Farm" tells about some of the difficult challenges of farm life, humorous incidents that defy reason, and a touch of the faith that helped us to keep our sanity. I have hesitated at times about whether or not to write this book because some of these stories may seem so outlandish that people may not believe that they are really true. But this book was not written to be put on a fiction shelf; it is farm life at its worst and at its best.
