Disordered sensations induced delirium, and were fol lowed by perversion of the emotions and instincts. The balluci nations were of peculiar importance, because they may be regarded as pathognomonic of the affection. At the first glance they seemed to differ much this patient beheld men who wished to assassinate him; that, while he sat at a table heard voices mocking him; while another saw and felt vipers and toads which nipped him. But in almost every instance the hallucinations caused a painful moral impression, and often even profound terror.'
