Negative workplace behaviour among nurses is an internationally recognised problem, and there are various forms of mistreatments and uncaring attitudes experienced by nurses. Generally, the negative workplace behaviours experienced by nurses can be classified into three categories: work-related bullying (e.g., unmanageable workloads or withholding information); person-related bullying (e.g., being humiliated or ignored); and physically intimidating bullying (e.g., being shouted at or threatened with violence). Exposure to these behaviours has been shown to be not only detrimental to individuals but can also have implications for the organisation, the profession and even the safety and quality of care that patients receive.
