Engineering is alive and exciting-not dull and boring. The author recounts his engineering life from childhood repairing lamp cords, building tree houses with his buddy, and rescuing a totaled car. He recalls college where he earned two degrees and experienced humanity and finance. And he describes many professional successes: designing cameras at Polaroid and Avant; developing electronic products and production machinery for ECA; tuning-up coal mining equipment for the USBM; designing, testing, and launching payloads on three Space Shuttle flights for GTE; and introducing LEDs to the lighting business at Sylvania. He recounts his avocation of remodeling houses; describes his foray into consulting; and relives being an expert witness with 58 hours on the witness stand. And lastly, he philosophizes about his career from the perspective of half a century of practicing engineering in many venues.
