Emilynn Mellars is dissatisfied with her life and running from the shadows of both the past and present. She sets out on a quest to find her dead mother’s best friend from high school. Soon, though, she is shocked to discover that what she knows about her mother’s past is not as she has been led to believe. Emilynn finds herself stranded in the middle of a horrendous rainstorm. Who would have thought that a smelly, floppy-eared dog, running for his own life, would rescue her in the most unlikely way? Through this strange encounter, she crosses paths with a hoarder of animals, unknown and undetected by law enforcement. Emilynn’s distrust for God is put to the test by this dog and the loving people she meets along the way. In her quest for a new life, she discovers the God whom she insisted did not exist, because if He did exist, He had failed her miserably. Emilynn’s walls begin to crumble as perfect strangers care for her. She finds her mother’s high school friend, who introduces her to Jesus. Despite her plans to the contrary, Emilynn also finds herself falling in love with a sandy-haired mechanic who experienced his own battle with God.
